La Pintora
Antoni Clavé
La Pintora
1949
DESCRIPTION
Executed in 1949, *La Pintora* belongs to a significant period in Antoni Clavé’s career, when his painting remained closely connected to his work in theatre and ballet, including his celebrated designs for Roland Petit’s *Carmen*. Depicting a female artist seated before her easel, the composition combines expressive black lines, richly layered textures and geometric forms within an almost theatrical setting. Vibrant touches of red, green, yellow and blue contrast with the surrounding earthy tones, drawing attention to the palette and the act of painting itself. The work reflects Clavé’s evolving artistic language, in which recognisable figures gradually merge with increasingly abstract compositions. Previously documented under the title *L’Atelier – fond gris*, the painting offers a compelling reflection on the artist’s creative process.
